LET'S GET STARTED - WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?

You need a clicker and plenty of treats. (If you don't have a clicker, to start with you can use a ballpoint pen with a nib which clicks up and down, such as a Parker.) A Vienna sausage (frank) or piece of cheese cut up into very small pieces will be fine for your first session. (In clicker training, we use a lot of treats, but we don't use large treats. Cut everything up as finely as possible.) Pen and paper will also come in useful for keeping records.

Make sure the treat is something your dog likes and will work for. My dogs like cat kibble and work well for it at home, but if I take them out where there are a lot more distractions, I have to raise the quality of the treats quite a bit!
